Current Projects

Immigration in Harder Times

Following the success of the Institute’s association with the University of Texas at Austin for Nations of Immigrants: Australia and the US Compared, a second project is being undertaken on a related volume by Australian and United States scholars as well as the Director of the Monash Prato Centre, Professor Loretta Baldassar. A workshop will be held at Prato in May 2010.

Social Cohesion in a Comparative Context: Diverse Societies, Divergent Approaches

This project is being led by Professor Paul Spoonley of Massey University and Ms Erin Tolley of Queens University. A workshop was recently held at the 14th International Metropolis Conference held in Copenhagen, in September 2009,  and the topic will be developed into a book. The Institute for the Study of Global Movements will be assisting with the provision of research on the Australian context – a chapter by the Director and Research Fellow, Professor John Nieuwenhuysen AM and Ms Stine Neerup will be contributed.
